Rockefeller Restaurant is best discrived by casual elegance, fresh local fare, and a kitchen with the most talented chefs in all of Virginia Beach. Locacted in Rudee Inlet location, the family-friendly staff, produces fresh food done right.
Rockafeller’s Restaurant is loved by locals and tourists alike. Rockafeller’s is one of Virginia Beach’s dining landmarks, making it a must on our first trip to Virginia.
When entering Rockefeller Restaurant were greeted at the door by the friendly staff and shown to our table. Two couples were sitting next to us that were as friendly in nature as the staff themselves. The owner BJ and her sons are walking the floor making sure all the guest are happy and fed with love and home cooking from scratch.
Our server was helpful and suggested local favorites without being too pushy or aggressive. Her knowledge of the menu was astounding. She easily rhymed off 10 different choices with attention to detail.
They also offer BBQ bacon shrimp, hush puppies, and crab bites. Each table is also greeted with rich and creamy tasting corn bread.
The menu is vast and was very hard to choose what we wanted. We know the main reason we were there was to try their signature dish “Oysters Rockefeller” This has been replaced across the area but they were the first to marry fresh oysters with cheese spinach butter and bacon baked on open shell. I was delighted the Oysters Rockefeller.
For lunch I got on of the specials salads and my husband got a white fish sandwich . We could taste the freshness in our dishes and even begged each other to try parts of our dishes.
You can usually tell the caliber of a restaurant by the type of people dining there. Well known sports figures and celebrities have been dining since the doors opened.
Dessert was our final dish. I have been to restaurants all over the east coast in my travels. I have had sit down lunches with pastry chefs. All I can say is these are the BEST desserts I have ever had. They are the type of desserts come from your grandmothers kitchen, the type you hope grandma has made when you get to her house just for you.
The Jamaican Rum Cake that I chose was topped with melt-in-your-mouth caramel and its warm, moist base was calling my name. Even when I am so stuffed that I can’t eat another bite of my main dish, I always find room for dessert. The Chocolate Moose adapted from Julia Child recipe was equally worthy of finding room to fit it in and we cleaned our plates.
Rockefeller Restaurant offers casual fine dining, a sociable atmosphere, a variety of choices, attentive staff, and a top-notch environment are hard to come by, but Rockafeller Restaurant really did have it all. Just look at the view from our window and the food laid out on the table and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
One fun note about Rockefeller Restaurant when they opened they thought they would stay true to health eating with no fried food. They quickly learned a little after 72 hours after being opened, a fryer or 4 would be needed to feed the crowds . They never cooked back.
