Those who are looking for a breakfast place with a be achy charm, Doc Taylors, a local spot and favorite for breakfast and lunch. They offer good food done right and at the perfect price.
Doc Taylors is former doctor’s office in Virginia Beach is renovated into a restaurant, open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. The unassuming location does not show signage for those searching for this restaurant. It is a large, white, beach cottage, built back in the 1930s. So all the local know the history and it truly a “hidden gem”.
Doc Taylors has diverse menu, serving breakfast and lunch choices all day. Doc Taylors menu favorites include The Flatliner, The Greek, Grandma Ellen’s Chipped Beef and The Nurse Ratchett, an organic egg omelet with grilled red peppers, Portobello mushrooms, spinach, and hollandaise. The food was filling but not heavy, perfectly cooked and absolutely hits the spot.
Ray Ray is one of the menu entrees recommended by the wait staff. It is a breakfast sandwich with egg bacon and cheese with a crispy broiled Parmesan crusted tomato, all on an onion bun. I can tell you this is a dish we had up north.
Seating is available in various rooms of the old cottage and on the sun patio, perfect for a beach community. Bar stools, at both the kitchen counter and the beverage bar, are the premium seating on weekends. Old beach decor adorns the wall. Photos and memorabilia on the restaurant’s wall share the story of the building’s story. Doc Taylors has an open kitchen to peek in on the happens for the day.
It’s within walking distance of most major hotels on the boardwalk but hidden away so the locals can still enjoy this dining wonder.
You need to go early. It can gets busy fast, they are used to the hassle and bustle food comes out very quickly with a splash of style . This doesn’t impact service just you want to start you day off right.
Doc Taylors is situated next door to the owner’s other restaurant called Tautogs. This means the 23rd street block has some of the best breakfast by day and bands with dinner by night.
