Our lovely hostess as the Virginia Beach Hotel Resort and Conference Center told is an insiders tip about the Adventure Park located on the ground of the Virginia Beach Aquarium. Adventure Park was founded by an educator like myself to support young children at risk. Here in Virginia Beach this ropes course was part of a school. When the school went through budget cuts. This former educator turned their sites to the Virginia Beach Aquarium to utilize the vast outdoor nature space to continue to allow children to sore beyond educational goals.
The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium is a unique addition to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Located a short drive from the popular Oceanfront resort area the Adventure Park is an aerial ropes course with over 170 platforms and a variety of of “elements” including bridges, obstacles and zip lines that offer up adventure with a bird’s eye view.
There are a wide range trails at the Adventure Park that will satisfy everyone from young kids and newbies to adrenaline junkies. Trails are marked by difficulty similar to a ski resort with purple and yellow trails appropriate for beginners and younger kids to the black diamond and double black diamond for anyone up for an adventurous challenge.
Prior to climbing you will be properly fit with a harness and given detailed instructions on how to safely use all of the equipment.
You should wear close fitting clothing as well as sneakers or hiking boots, flip- flops and sandals are not allowed. Safety is paramount at the Adventure Park and they utilize an “always locked on” double connected climbing system that helps ensure your harness is always connected to the safety lines.
After your orientation it’s time to start climbing! The course is designed to be explored on your own but staff are always on hand if you need any assistance. Each trail will have a variety of courses that will test your balance (and nerves at times!) but you’ll have a blast the entire time.
By far our favorite experience at the Adventure Park was hooking up the zip line and flying through the trees, what a rush! The look on my children’s face during the is element was priceless.
